Russian Election Activists Arrested at Conference

Russian unique pressures confiscated the participants in the Tatarstan resources Kazan “to examine their involvement in terrorism,” the team said, without giving details.

Members of the Russian “United Democrats” motion, which campaigns for significant elections, were jailed in the western Tatarstan region on Saturday, the team stated on Facebook.

Anastasia Burakova, one of the movement’s coordinators, claimed the apprehensions occurred during a seminar on local public procurement arranged by the Berlin-based Transparency International NGO.

At night, all the guys jailed were released, yet three women were kept at the police headquarters, Transparency International’s Yekaterina Petrova informed Interfax.

Launched in 2018, “United Democrats” was formed by a team of independent prospects in community elections, battling for a fair battle at the polls.

According to their web site, they helped 139 independent replacements obtain elected in Saint Petersburg last September.

This September they aim to have prospects for municipal political elections in four Russian areas, including Tatarstan.
