Feeling the frizz? This super simple hack shows exactly how to style wavy hair in summer

Celebs and influencers will have you believe that soft, tousled, just-napped-on-a-beach wavy hair is something that just *happens* as soon as you hit the beach. Or that manipulating your arms into pretzel-like positions to create silky waves via your straightener is a foolproof method.

Well, sorry, but someone of us are more Monica Gellar as soon as the heat rolls in, rather than Hailey Bieber.

Wavy hair re-manifested itself as a cool-girl staple back in 2019, and since then everyone from Gigi Hadid, Demi Lovato to all of the Kardashian-Jenners have been copying it. And now J.Lo herself has reinvented the look as the mermaid wave, inspired by windswept, salt-licked strands featuring lots of movement and oomph at the crown… GAWJUS.

So far though – and we’ve been trying for several years now – we haven’t been able to properly copy the look without creating major frizz, stress and electricity bills, and sorry, but with the rising cost of living we can’t really afford to spend hours each day with our straighteners plugged in just hoping that something is about to click.

Luckily, our faithful wing person (ok, yes, it’s TikTok, again) has come up with the goods and so if, like us, you’ve been either trying to tame your naturally wavy hair into succulent beach half-curls or you’re slightly lacklustre loops just won’t play ball when it comes to the off-duty style, you’re going to want to listen up.

So the video in question was created by user @squishylyss (aka Lyss) just a few days ago and has already received over 1.4million views (hey, frizz friends!), thousands upon thousands of likes and A LOT of comments from people who have been searching for the secret to perfectly wavy hair since Taylor Swift showed us all what we were missing.

In the video, Lyss reassures us all that we “don’t have frizzy hair, we have wavy hair,” and then confidently reassures us that she’s going to show us how to style it.

“So first thing you want thing you’re going to want to do is have a shower and wash your hair. I use a microfibre towel to keep my hair up and I let it dry for about 10 minutes,” she says. “After about 10 minutes you just take it out.”

She shows her natural slightly-wavy, pretty tousled hair before explaining that she then applies a leave-in conditioner: “You can use any leave-in conditioner but I use Shea Moisture Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner.”

She then rubs a generous amount through her hair, “make sure it’s evenly dispersed but not on the root.”

.

“Next thing you’re going to want to do is apply a smoothing product,” Lyss continues. “So I have this BB Straight by Bumble and Bumble, and this is meant for blow-drying but it actually just smooths my hair.

“With this you can apply it everywhere and just a little bit through the top.”

She then reveals that the secret to no frizz when you “do this hairstyle” according to her hairstylist is to use “really hydrating, moisturising products”, which is exactly what she’s already showed us how to do so we’re even more certain we’re on the right path now.
