Ripple Labs welcomes on board a former Amazon executive

Blockchain firm Ripple Labs has hired a top executive that previously worked at Amazon

The San-Francisco based company has obtained the services of Devraj Varadhan, formerly of Amazon. Varadhan joins Ripple as the new senior vice-president of the Engineering department. Among many other responsibilities, he has been tasked to lead the firm’s engineering team.

Varadhan will be looking to fill the shoes of his predecessor Chris Kanaan. Kanaan had been a long-serving Ripple employee before his eventual exit. Brad Garlinghouse, the company’s chief executive, said he was excited to have Varadhan on board.

The blockchain company seems to have landed the right person for the role, considering he has the experience, having worked with giant corporation Amazon. Varadhan was the company’s vice president of delivery experience for over three years between 2017 and the end of 2020. Before taking this position, he had a brief stint at Microsoft after spending 11 years as Director, Software Development at Amazon.

In his statement, Varadhan acknowledged that tech advancement could create a huge impact on everyday life.

In leading engineering teams at Amazon for 15 years, I witnessed first-hand, customer focused innovations at scale that provided people with core necessities essential to how they live.”

He further explained that the Ripple network would conceive and sustain increased efficiency on the global financial network by leveraging the potential of blockchain with the Internet of Value (IoV). He went on to claim that processing transactions on the platform will be as straightforward as sending an email.

Ripple’s financial network RippleNet, and the RippleX open developer platform unlock the power of blockchain and digital asset technology allowing financial institutions, startups, founders, and entrepreneurs to dramatically improve the speed, cost and reliability of how people transact around the world.

Although Ripple has recently caught the news headlines for the wrong reasons, it has still managed to attract several high-profile executives. Varadhan is the latest name among top guns that have joined Ripple. Nearly a month ago, the former chief regulatory affairs officer at JPMorgan Chase, Sandie O’Connor, was added to its board of directors.
