Honey wheat blonde is the wearable shade that’s set to headline 2023

In amongst the extreme shades like icy Targaryen blonde that have been trending throughout 2022, another shade has been steadily gaining momentum. Honey wheat blonde is exactly as wholesome as it sounds. Warm honey tones, gently blended against buttery wheat highlights, make for a hair colour that’s as beautiful as it is wearable.

“The focus right now is on warmer tones in the cold season,” says celebrity hairstylist and Brand Educator for Jerome Russell, Jason Collier. “Honey wheat blonde is without a doubt the most flattering hair colour for 2023. The natural blonde tone is more popular this year than ever and has already established itself on the runways and with celebrities,” he adds. “The hair colour is a unique combination of darker basic tones and light gold nuances that shimmer beautifully,” Jason explains.

It’s the comfy T-shirt of hair shades – effortless, approachable, and it looks banging with every outfit. The deeper tones give the hair colour a slightly more worn-in look that’s ultra gentle and flattering around the roots as it grows out. In fact, we’ve been loving a root smudge for relaxed cool-girl hair).

But those glossy honey hues woven in make the whole thing feel polished, luxe and a little more glam, especially when you amp them up with the right upkeep. We’d recommend asking for a toning gloss in salon-like Kerastase Fusio Dose or L’Oreal Professionnel’s Majirel Glow. At home, try the Kerastase Chroma Absolu Acide Chroma Gloss or L’Oreal Elvive’s Dreamlengths 8 Second Wonder Water.

As for who suits the colour, “the best thing is that, depending on the nuances, honey wheat blonde can suit anyone,” says Jason. The trick is to tailor the tones to your complexion. Among the hair colour’s celebrity disciples is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, says Jason, who switched out her brighter blonde for a look that’s a little more laidback and low-maintenance.
